Friederike Scheunchen is a conductor with a focus on new and contemporary music as well as intermedia music-theatrical projects.
After her studies in Freiburg and Trossingen, she held teaching positions for conducting at the conservatories in Mainz and Freiburg.
She founded Ensemble s c o p e as an instrumental and vocal collective, as a fusion of composition, electronics, light, video, performance, set design, dealing with great subjects of our time, processing them artistically. She curates it together with Clemens K. Thomas and Lucia Kilger.
In 2022 she was the musical director for Carola Bauckholt's music theater 'hellhörig' and conducted concerts with Ensemble Reflektor at the PODIUM Festival Esslingen.
For the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2021 she rehearsed several days with SWR Vokalensemble (Filidei - The Red Death), where she assisted several times before (Yuval Weinberg for his inaugural concert, Bas Wiegers for ECLAT 2021).
In 2023 she will assist Christoph Altstaedt with the German National Youth Orchestra as well as prepare the orchestra for concerts with Kirill Petrenko.
She is currently a scholarship holder of the Forum Dirigieren des Deutschen Musikrats as well as of Akademie Musiktheater heute 2021-23
At the Hochschule für Musik FHNW Basel sonic space she leads the performer-composer project KinnectKollektiv.
She is the conductor of the Ensemble for Contemporary Music as well as a teacher for New Chamber Music at the University of Music Freiburg, where she leads the Master Interpretation New Music Instrumental + Vocal.
